HOW "THE WOUNDED CITY" DVD WAS MADE
Phyllis Parun, New Orleans native artist-poet-culturer has lived, worked, and created in her hometown her entire life. She evacuated on August 31, 2005 when she saw the lake waters reach Royal and Canal.

She returned home in October determined to photograph every neighborhood of her wounded city. Parun worked under dire conditions. She had no auto, no land line and poor cell phone communications, sporadic electric utilities, non-potable water, and a neighborhood and home suffering damage. Between she own repairs and daily clean up work, Parun persevered taking pictures of her beloved New Orleans.

With a Sony digital given to her, traveling in borrowed cars which her friends drove or loaned her, using a bike given her, and on foot, Parun photographed everything she saw.

Everywhere she went, she took pictures. She never crossed a property line or violated any sacred objects or territory. Not once did she disturb any scene or move any objects. Only once did the National Guard ask her to delete photos with Iraqi security forces in them. In another case the National Guards escorted her into restricted areas. Every photograph in this DVD is exactly what photographer Phyllis Parun witnessed herself. The sound track are sound bites of voices and Temple bells are those that she collected and created for this DVD.

The result is a magnificent, personal journey by this native artist, poet, writer through the wounded city of her hometown of New Orleans, Louisiana from Sept. through Dec. of 2005.
